Why do languages exist?
Up until now i've been in my safe little island just speaking, and hearing, portuguese or english and it seems the same to me, as i can understand it.
But now i've been exposed to a different reality, a mirror world, where strange languages are spoke and i don't understand their details, just the overall context, due to the tones and not to the words. You see the tones are the same everywhere, but the words differ.
This can be both a barrier and a personal identity, but above all i don't understand why we as human beings have the need for different languages. Of course one might disagree and say that this language is richer in this or that that other language is better for that, but in the end they all express the same.
As an analogy i try to relate 'human languages' to 'programming languages', and although it might seem odd at first they're quite similar.
Computer languages all share the same basic goal, to express logic. Then why do we need more than one? Same with human language, they're all meant to express ourselves.

First impressions
So i've just moved from Portugal to Switzerland for a new job, and fresh start, i'm starting this blog with the intention of keeping a journal, or more like ideas about the topic of moving into the unknown.
When i first got here 6 days ago i was a in a bit of a shock, because everything is just a little different.
So far i'm enjoyoing my stay and my co-workers are really helping me out with all the details and things i HAVE to do, but there are so many things that some are bound to be missed :)
Well gotta work, as soon as i have my computer at home i'll start posting more ;)
